The Last of Us Part I – Capitol Building Materials [Part II]

This gallery is a collection of some of the many materials I made during the production of The Last of Us Part I.

Every material showcased in this gallery were all fully made in Substance 3D Designer and rendered in Marmoset Toolbag.
While these materials were made for the Capitol Exterior, most of them were also put in the base library and can be found throughout the game.

For more information, please make sure to read the caption under each image and video to get some additional insight on my workflow and Environment Art techniques.

Hope you like it and find this series of galleries useful!

2D Concept Artist | 10+ Years of Experience

As a 2D Concept Artist with over 10 years of experience, I specialize in creating visually stunning concept art for games, films, and other media. My work revolves around developing characters, environments, props, and visual styles that communicate the core essence of a project’s creative vision. I’m highly skilled in traditional and digital painting techniques, with expertise in software such as Photoshop, SketchUp, and Procreate. I collaborate closely with directors, designers, and 3D modelers to bring concepts to life and set the visual direction for a wide range of projects.

  • Character & Creature Design

  • Environment & World Design

  • Props & Weapon Design

  • Concept Art Development & Refinement

  • Color Theory & Composition

  • Lighting and Mood Design

  • Digital Painting (Photoshop, Procreate, Krita)

  • Traditional Sketching & Painting

  • Visual Storytelling & Concept Development

  • Collaboration with 3D Artists & Designers

Selected Projects:

  1. Project A: Fantasy RPG Game
Created a wide range of character designs, including heroes, villains, and non-playable characters (NPCs) for a fantasy RPG. Developed concept art for various game environments, focusing on fantasy architecture and landscapes, while ensuring a cohesive and immersive visual style that matched the game’s narrative and tone.

  2. Project B: Sci-Fi Movie Concept Art
Designed futuristic cityscapes, spaceships, and alien species for a science fiction film. Worked directly with the director and visual effects team to establish the movie's look and feel. My concept art helped set the tone for the film’s aesthetic, influencing everything from set design to costume creation.

  3. Project C: Mobile Puzzle Game
Designed stylized, visually appealing characters and environments for a mobile puzzle game. The goal was to create assets that were simple yet engaging, with a playful and bright color palette to attract casual players. Worked with the art team to adapt my designs for low-resolution mobile screens.

Design Approach:

My approach to concept art is to capture the essence of a project through bold and clear visuals that serve both the creative vision and technical needs of the production. I begin each project with a deep understanding of the narrative and thematic elements, ensuring that my designs are grounded in the world the team is trying to build.

I believe that concept art should tell a story—whether it’s through character silhouettes, mood lighting, or detailed environments. I place a strong emphasis on exploring multiple variations of an idea, pushing the creative boundaries while also keeping in mind how the designs will transition into 3D models or final production.

Collaboration:

Collaboration is central to my work process. I regularly work with art directors, designers, and 3D modelers, taking their feedback to iterate on my designs and refine the visual direction. I take pride in being adaptable and open to new ideas, as I understand the importance of flexibility in a creative environment. My ability to work collaboratively has been essential in bringing the project’s vision to life in the most effective way possible.
